Progressives lens really is not fitted for computer using?

I feel puzzled for my distance vision, but in fact I need ordinary prescription eyeglasses. The eye doctor suggest me to choose progressive ones, since these glasses give wearer all three ranges of vision- far, near and distance. Thus, some people may have the idea that if they can use such eye wears for computer using, and the intermediate area that would typically be used for computers is not that wide of an area on the progressive lenses. So progressive lens is doable for computer use.
