Are polarized eyeglasses suitable for drivers?

I am a taxi driver,when the sun light is strong in sunny days,I can`t open my eyes against the sun,I am afraid that some day this would cause accident.So I want to fit a pair of polarized sunglass to get rid of the influences of sun light.But my friends suggest me that it`s not suitable to wear polarized sunglasses inside of the car,as it will reduce the light get into my eyes and affect my vision.Now I am confused whether should I buy a pair of polarized sunglass?Please give me some advises.Thanks!
